Ivy Lee Gets Sworn In As Trustee

Meet College Board

Trustee Ivy Lee

In 2019, Civil Rights Attorney Ivy Lee was elected to serve on the San Francisco City College Board of Trustees.

An architect of the Free City College program, Ivy Lee has fought to stabilize City College and improve the education environment for the 63,000 students the college serves.

Ivy has worked as a Legislative Aide in the City Hall offices of Board of Supervisors President Norman Yee and Supervisor Jane Kim.

Prior to this civic work, Ivy was the Thurgood Marshall Fellow at the Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights and an immigration attorney at the Asian Law Caucus before joining the Asian Pacific Islander Legal Outreach.

At APILO, she represented immigrant survivors of crime for immigration and civil relief; conducted legislative and policy advocacy at the local, state and federal levels, and provided training and technical assistance for law enforcement agencies as well as nongovernmental organizations nationwide.

Ivy received her J.D. from New York University School of Law.

Ivy and her husband live on the westside with their three children.

21st Century

CCSF

For too long, City College has faced structural issues that have impaired its long-term success. We must focus on securing the college's fiscal health in the near term.

As Trustee, Ivy has advocated to put an end to deficit spending, to grow the college's financial reserves, and to increase enrollment by developing the courses that enable students to compete in the 21st century workplace.

She is also a fierce champion of Free City, a program that offers free tuition to SF residents. It was the first, and remains the most inclusive, free college program in the country, and she will fight to make it permanent.

As Trustee, Ivy has focused the college's efforts to close the achievement gap and help support every student's educational success. She has partnered with city leaders to expand City College's capacity to serve residents in neighborhoods such as the Sunset and Bayview/Hunter's Point.

Understanding that the City College community is larger than just enrolled students, Ivy led the effort to establish a small business, minority-owned business, and local business enterprise policy to expand college contracting opportunities.
